HEALTHY EATING
Today we decided to explore the healthy eating properties of Nuts.
We began with a group discussion and question & answer session to establish what each of us knew about nuts.
We wrote a table with the names of the nuts we could remember & tried to describe what the nuts looked like.
We decided to investigate 3 nuts in detail on the computers for our research project.
We chose:
Horse Chestnuts; also known as conkers.
Sweet chestnuts; the type we like to eat around bonfire night.
Acorns; the squirrel's favourite. The tutor asked: what tree does the Acorn come from? This created an interesting discussion.
There is a famous saying:
From little acorns, great oaks grow.
We then questioned whether these nuts were edible for humans or preferable to animals. For example: Acorns are a favourite of squirrels & we think they are not really palatable for humans. However, we found a Korean recipe for using acorns in a cooked dish.
